If your experiencing a backup in your toilet the first thing you need to do is locate the water shut off valve and turn the water off. After water is no longer flowing push down on the flapper inside of tank to stop the bowl from filling. If the blockage is not severe a toilet plunger can be used to push the sediment down. If the blockage is severe contact a plumber to snake your water line.

Copper vs. PEX

The most commonly used pipe in homes is copper and Pex. Copper pipes prove to be more durable and last over 50 years, while Pex pipes last 30-40 years. Copper pipes do cost about 20%-30% more than Pex pipe which is why most modern homes use Pex.

These pipes were used from the 1940’s to 1970’s in many homes. Over time these pipes will absorb moisture and cause the pipe to deform. They also easily collapse and tend to be penetrated by roots.
